With Rabbi Rami Shapiro
October 29–31, 2010
“The real gift of the Twelve Step recovery is not simply the cessation of our harmful behavior, but the ending of our harmful thinking.”
—Rabbi Rami Shapiro
In a hope-filled approach to spiritual and personal growth, Rabbi Rami Shapiro uses the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to shine light on the foundational addiction from which all humans suffer—the illusion that we are in control of our lives.
Rather than using the Twelve Step process as a way to escape the clutches of addictive behaviors, Shapiro presents them as a way to free ourselves from “playing God,” a game that almost all of us are addicted to playing.
Drawing on insights and practices of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism and Islam, Shapiro describes how we can use spiritual maturation to cut through the illusion of control and begin living life with the ever-deepening qualities of justice, compassion, curiosity, awe, wonder, serenity and humility.
