A Change in Course for the Tower

Awaken Whole Life Center will cease operations in January as Unity World Headquarters moves to offer commercial space in the landmark Unity Tower.

UNITY VILLAGE, Mo.—Awaken Whole Life Center, a for-profit wholly owned subsidiary of Unity World Headquarters, will cease operations January 31, 2017. Unity World Headquarters CEO Jim Blake made the announcement November 30 to employees at Unity Village.

Since opening in the newly restored Unity Tower in 2013, Awaken Whole Life Center has offered a variety of medical, wellness and spa services, and hosted retreats and gatherings on the Unity Village campus. The $6.6 million Tower restoration project was funded through charitable donations and historic tax credit investors.

“Restoring the Tower was always the primary initiative, and we have fulfilled that commitment to our supporters,” Blake said. “The business plan was to establish a healing center offering various services and modalities in the space. While it’s clear now that the initial overall model may have had flaws, we intend to continue those functions that have worked well for us.”

Blake added that Unity World Headquarters has assumed management of retreats, events, yoga and fitness activities. Unity will also operate the Glenn H. Korff Fitness Center, located adjacent to the Tower in the Silent Unity Building.

“The Tower is a unique community asset with opportunities for the right kind of business,” he said. “Moving forward we will offer commercial space in this iconic location to established business owners and professionals with expertise in like-kind or even expanded services beyond those that were offered in the Tower.”

The organization has engaged Michael VanBuskirk of Newmark Grubb Zimmer to assist in this effort.

A small staff will remain through January 31 to work with customers as operations wind down.

“I am deeply grateful to all who have served at Awaken,” Blake said. “I join our Unity community in blessing and uplifting these employees in prayer at this time.”
