A New Face for Unity

Chuck Pettis of Brand Solutions shares the research results and approach to our new identity initiative at the Unity Worldwide Ministries (aka Association of Unity Churches International) convention in June 2010.

What is a brand?
Becoming a household name.
How can we describe ourselves?
It's not a race—it's evolution.

What kinds of people make up the Unity movement? What are the common beliefs that resonate with those who attend and lead Unity churches? What about Unity resonates with people who have never heard of us? How can the Unity movement grow?

We began to answer these questions by conducting three branding workshops with the leadership of Unity School and the Association. Then we conducted a series of carefully designed market research surveys. These surveys gave us statistically projectable and reliable data on which to base the Unity brand identity.

The objectives for the branding project overall are:
•    Define and communicate a compelling, credible, trusted brand identity.
•    Identify the target audiences most receptive to Unity's overall brand identity, including beliefs.
•    Increase public awareness of Unity and its benefits.
•    Become more clear and effective in all marketing communications.
•    Come together to unify our identity and speak with one voice to the world.

To accomplish these, the research was a crucial beginning. See the survey results.

Participation for Unity Ministries
We are working on a plan to implement the branding with our member ministries. Since we will have a complete, turnkey package to offer you, please wait until this is complete and ready for you. This will ensure that we achieve our objective of speaking with one voice to the world.

Branding requires a new understanding of how we communicate and market ourselves as ministries. What really matters most is that we do this together, with everyone on the same page, with the same look.

We will customize each ministry's package for you, and offer an easy way to order all that you need, taking advantage of national discounts on printed materials. In addition, we are developing a way to offer you consistent websites, customized for each ministry.

Because we know that many ministries will want to take advantage of this program, and we want to make sure we do this right, we will work with ministries in phases so that we can give you personal attention. As the project progresses, we'll be able to make any adjustments indicated by the early phases, thus benefiting everyone.

Keep an eye on this page for updates. We appreciate your patience through this process. If you have questions or comments, e-mail Debbie Allen debbie@unity.org.
