Thanksgiving Day may be a time for turkey and football. But it is also a sacred day to gather with beloved community around the table.
On Thanksgiving—as with any day—saying a thanksgiving grace allows us to pause. It gives us time to acknowledge the goodness and abundance in our lives.
“We say grace at every meal,” says Julie Neas Trueba, a friend of Unity, “but at Thanksgiving I think it is important to go around the table, so each person has a chance to offer what they are thankful for.”
Anytime we sit down to eat, whether alone or with others, we can take a moment to observe and express thankfulness for life’s abundance.
On this special holiday, friends of Unity share with you their mealtime blessings for Thanksgiving and any day.
Thanksgiving Table Grace and Blessings From Friends of Unity
New Thought singer David Roth has a wonderful Thanksgiving song that has been performed in a lot of Unity churches. I really like that he makes grace and gratitude a beautiful and everyday thing.
“As we come around to take our places at the table,
A moment to remember and reflect upon our wealth.
Here's to loving friends and family, here's to being able
To gather here together in good company and health.”
You could easily enjoy this song, “May the Light of Love,” by David Roth as a table grace itself before you dig into your turkey dinner.

Our prayers of thanksgiving clear the way for the mystery to unfold as we embrace and express our divine potential.
As caring, compassionate beings, we seek to be fully present for ourselves and our loved ones. We are sentient beings, standing on the fringe of divine mystery while holding a sacred space for the world.
May we always find peace in our lives, love to share, wonder in everyday things, peace in our hearts, and gratitude for blessings not yet received.

A Blessing for Our Food
We pause from the busyness of life and align ourselves with the presence of divine love. Acknowledging our many blessings, we give our sincerest gratitude for this food which we receive.
We ask that it be blessed with life force energy, the chi of love—all that is pure and healthy and nothing that is not. We ask that it may nourish and nurture us, body, mind, emotions, and spirit so that we may be in alignment with our highest good and share our gifts with the world. Thank you, God, for this food and our many blessings. And so it is. Amen.

I give thanks to God for the divine purpose and timing that together weave a golden thread of opportunity throughout my life.
There is an answer to every prayer. With this awareness, I accept and give thanks for the abundant good that is mine to claim and to share with others.

We pray for food in a world where many walk in hunger;
For faith in a world where many walk in fear;
For friends in a world where many walk alone.
Tonight we give thanks for the fellowship of all those gathered here, for the meal we are about to share, and for ever-present love in our lives. Amen.

A Song for Table Grace
At Thanksgiving time, I always share this song with family and those I want to give thanks for. It’s called “Grateful” by Art Garfunkel.
