Your Thought Is Your Life

By Rev. Art Holt

In 1959 Unity first published Charles Fillmore's The Revealing Word. For the law of attraction he wrote: “The law that all conditions and circumstances in (our) affairs and body are attracted to us in accord with the thoughts we hold steadily in consciousness.”

So how is this attraction possible?

It's based on the fact that everything in the universe is energy. We are mass energy. Yes, we have a body and yes, we are spirit, and all of that is energy in different forms. We send energy forth from our consciousness that is directed by our thoughts, our words, and our actions.

Like the signal from a radio or television station, our energy is not visible, so we live our lives unaware of the power that resides within and around us. But we transmit this energy like ripples on a pond, with every thought we think and every word we speak.

The Gospel of John begins with, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God … and the Word was made flesh.” We have interpreted this passage to symbolize the physical manifestation of Jesus as the Son of God, but could this message also be telling us that the Word made flesh is the God-energy that moves through all of us in the thoughts we think and words we use? If so, this is the energy that determines the results that unfold in our lives.

Change your life? Change your thoughts!

People with repeated health challenges think and talk about all the things they can't do, and the result is an outpouring of negative energy. It restricts the inflow of radiant health. One woman's constant fear has been of disease, illness, and disability. Her conversations with neighbors and friends are limited to her doctor visits, her medications, and the probability of impending surgery.
Because like attracts like and our dominant thoughts create our reality, her situation is not likely to change without a conscious decision to change her thoughts and words.

Everything in the universe is made of energy. Solids, liquids, and gasses—everything is energy, including human cells. Similar energies are attracted to one another, and discordant energies are pushed apart like an outgoing tide. Our thoughts go out as energy waves and attract conditions and circumstances to us that have a similar energy frequency.

Many people say, Well, if that's true, why do I think about something and not get it? They might say, I think about a good and loving relationship, winning the lottery, and a slender, healthy body, but I'm not getting those things!

The answer is simple; there's something inside that is in conflict with their desires.

You are the sum of all your life experiences. Old recordings stored in your subconscious may be keeping you from your actually believing you can have the relationship, the job, the winnings, or the healthy body you desire. They combine to nullify the energy that is going out to help you achieve your current desires.

The law of attraction is a wonderful law and it works for everyone, all the time. It attracts people, places, and things to help you fulfill your dreams. It also brings challenges and struggles.

To make the law of attraction work for you, you must pay attention to three things: your thoughts, your feelings, and the way you respond to opportunities.

We get what we think about, we get what we talk about, we get what we feel in our guts, whether it's good or bad. Our life experiences are the result of whatever is going on in our minds or coming out of our mouths. Life does not happen to us, it happens through us.
