Ephesians 2:1-22

Ephesians is a late letter, written when Paul was imprisoned in Rome (see 3:1 and 4:1). It's not specifically written to the church in Ephesus, but as a "circular letter" to be copied and passed among the various churches.


There are many references in scripture to money, and to the question of wealth vs. poverty. I don't think you'd find any statements that poverty is God's purpose.

Luke 11:31

The reference is to the Queen of Sheba, whose interactions with King Solomon are described in 1 Kings 10:1-10. Jesus is speaking about those among his followers who were demanding more signs and wonders.

In Luke 13, Jesus is journeying through Samaria en route to Jerusalem. The people accompanying him were gossiping about some Galileans in Jerusalem who had died at the hands of Pilate (v. 1).

Psalm 58:3-5

What a fearful, negative passage your pastor has chosen, out of the context in which it was written. Psalm 58 is basically a prayer for vengeance upon an unnamed enemy force.
