Charles S. Fillmore Chronology

  1854 AUG 22 Born at 4 a.m., in St. Cloud, Stearns County, Minnesota (six miles between the Sauk and Mississippi Rivers), on a Chippewa Indian Reservation and named Charles Sherlock Fillmore, eldest child of Henry Glezen and Mary Georgiana Stone Fillmore.
  1860 Enumerated in the 1860 Federal Population Census with his father, mother, and his brother Norton in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
  1864 Dislocated his hip in an ice skating accident at age 10 and suffered permanent trauma.
  1869 Worked as a printer's apprentice; Mrs. Edgar Taylor, influenced by transcendental thought, tutored him; worked as a grocery clerk and later worked as assistant cashier in a bank; J. G. Smith, the cashier and a good friend, taught him how to write.
  1870 Enumerated in the 1870 Federal Population Census with his mother and brother in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
  1874 Left Minnesota for Paris, Texas at age 19 (Caddo, Indian Territory); in a few months got a clerkship in the freight office of the M. K.& T. Railroad at Dennison, Texas (remained in this capacity for six years and worked up to cashier); he sent for his mother.
  1876 Met Mary Caroline "Myrtle" Page, a school teacher, in Dennison, Texas.
  1879 Went to Leadville, Colorado; took a course in metallurgy and became a mining assayer, located at Gunnison City, Colorado (Myrtle left Texas and returned to her brother's home in Clinton, Missouri)
  1880 JUN 14 Enumerated in the 1880 Federal Population Census in Gunnison City, Gunnison County, Colorado.
  1881 MAR 29 Married Myrtle Page (1845‒1931) in Clinton, Henry County, Missouri at age 27; moved to Gunnison City, Colorado; moved to Pueblo, Colorado, when mining boom ended. Started the real estate and insurance business "Charles Fillmore & Co.," which was succeeded by "Small, Fillmore & Co."
  1882 JAN 04 Son Lowell Page Fillmore was born in Pueblo, Colorado.
  1884 JUN 01 Son Waldo Rickert Fillmore was born in Pueblo, Colorado; the Fillmores left their home in Pueblo and spent the winter in Omaha, Nebraska.
  1885 Moved to 1021 Oak Street, Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, where Charles engaged in selling real estate in the partnership "Risley, Fillmore & Co.," located at 904 Main Street.
  1886 Moved residence to 702 Wabash Avenue; "Fillmore & Co." located at 812 Delaware; heard New Thought lecture by E. B. Weeks; began blessing and praying with neighbors and friends.
  1887 Moved residence to Wabash Avenue at Seventh Street on the northwest corner; "Fillmore & Co." (a partnership between Charles Fillmore, J.C. Duval, and C.H. Rickarts) located at 824 Delaware.
  1887 JUL Charles and Myrtle received a certificate after taking a course of instruction in the principles of Christian Science from Joseph Adams, a Normal Class Graduate of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College in Boston, Massachusetts; had a dream that foretold spiritual work in Kansas City.
  1888 Myrtle healed of her tubercular condition; they moved residence to 641 Wabash Avenue; "Fillmore & Co." located at 1 Journal Building.
  1889 They started Christian Science Society study group; family moved residence to 647 Wabash Avenue.
  1889 APR Founded Modern Thought Publishing Company in Kansas City, located at 1 Journal Building; premier issue of Modern Thought magazine is published.
  1889 JUL 16 Son John Royal Fillmore was born; real estate business moved to 406 Keith and Perry Building.
  1889 AUG Relocated Modern Thought Publishing Company to 32 Deardorff Building, corner of 11th and Main Street.
  1890 Charles and Myrtle formed Society of Silent Help (name changed to Society of Silent Unity; now called Silent Unity®); moved residence to 415 Landis Court. Charles' real estate business moved to 411 Keith and Perry Building.
  1890 OCT Changed Modern Thought Publishing Company to Thought Publishing Company and relocated to Hall Building at 820 Walnut Street.
  1890 DEC 10 Charles and Myrtle received ordination certificates from the Christian Science Theological Seminary signed by Emma Curtis Hopkins, Annie E. Rix, and F.S. Van Eps.
  1890 DEC His father, Henry G. Fillmore, died in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
  1891 Moved residence to 4802 E. Sixth Street.
  1891 NOV Changed Thought Publishing Company to Unity Book Company.
  1892‒1896 Moved residence 5 times. Moved Unity Book Company 3 times.
  1898 Moved Unity work to a house at 1315 McGee Street.
  1901 Charles and Myrtle participated in Healing Revival at Manitou, Colorado.
  1905 SEP 01 Moved Unity work to 913-917 Tracy Avenue.
  1905 DEC 10 Charles and Myrtle received a Certificate of Membership from the Unity Society of Practical Christianity signed by Lowell Fillmore, Secretary.
  1906 AUG 31 Charles and Myrtle ordained by the Unity Society of Practical Christianity. Unity Building constructed.
  1910 APR 15 Enumerated in the 1910 Federal Population Census with his wife, mother, and three sons at 428 Elmwood Avenue.
  1914 Incorporated Unity School of Christianity
  1918 Charles and Mrytle published Declaration of Trust; they received Certificates of Ordination from Unity School of Christianity.
  1919 AUG 04 Son Rickert married Harriet Collins (ceremony performed by Charles S. Fillmore); first acreage at Unity Farm purchased.
  1920 JAN 09 Enumerated in the 1920 Federal Population Census with his wife, mother, and sons, Lowell and Royal, at 438 Elmwood.
  1920 NOV 27 Son Royal married Frances Sleater in New Jersey; David Walter Pye was Royal's best man; Unity Inn founded.
  1921 JAN 21 Grandson Charles Rickert Fillmore was born (son of Rickert and Harriet). Charles lectured in Chicago, Illinois.
  1921 OCT 01 Granddaughter Myrtle Innocencia "Frances" Fillmore was born (daughter of Royal and Frances; raised by her uncle, Lowell Fillmore); published Amendment to the Articles of Incorporation of Unity School of Christianity (now called Unity World Headquarters).
  1922 Gave first radio broadcast on Unity station WOQ; first minister to speak on radio in Kansas City
  1923 SEP 09 Son Royal died at Kellogg Sanitarium in Battle Creek, Calhoun County, Michigan. Published Declaration of Trust.
  1925 OCT 21 Granddaughter Rosemary Fillmore was born (daughter of Rickert and Harriet).
