God is All

God is All

If I had one wish for the world, it would be that every adult reexamine his or her view of God at least once per decade. God may not change, but people do, and we outgrow our old concepts. The ideas about God that we held at six will not serve us at sixteen and certainly not sixty. Just as children may outgrow peanut butter and opt for spicy curries, we can assimilate more and different ideas about the universe and its workings as we evolve. ...

My childhood view of God was an old man in the sky, watching my every move. This God loved me, I was told, but this God refused to love anyone who didn't profess faith in Jesus and would send them to hell. And, by the way, God monitored my thoughts. I'd better be careful.

Jesus and Homosexuality

Jesus and Homosexuality

The September/October 2010 issue of Unity Magazine features an important article by Ken Daigle about homosexuality and Scripture. In it, Daigle closely examines key passages that are cited by fundamentalist Christians as evidence that God condemns homosexuals. Daigle concludes that the translations of the Bible’s original passages written in Greek are inconclusive at best; moreover, they have tended to be interpreted according to each translator’s biases and personal or political motives.

Spiritual Equality

Spiritual Equality

How I long for the day when we will collectively stop clinging fearfully to old, outdated interpretations of Bible scripture based on concepts of an angry, demanding and punishing God and embrace instead the infinitely loving, intimately expressing Presence and Power that Jesus Christ taught and demonstrated some 2,000 years ago.

No one quotes the Bible anymore to justify the institution of slavery—although they did so in the not-so-distant past. No one quotes the Bible to justify treating women as property intended by God to be submissive to men in all things—although they did so in the even more-recent past.

Diversity Creates Balance

Diversity Creates Balance

The nature of God's great creation is one of diversity. Wonderful and mystical variances are found throughout the universe that make for a perfect balance in nature.

I believe homosexuality is a genetic disposition and a perfectly natural expression for a certain percentage of human beings. Homosexuals, as well as heterosexuals, are the way God created them and every person regardless of race, nationality, sexuality or appearance greatly embellishes the beautiful diversity of this world.

Every person's God-given right is to live the life they desire to live, as long as they don't violate the God-given rights of another to do the same or the laws of the society in which they live.

A Manifesto! The Time Has Come!

A Manifesto! The Time Has Come!

I have made a decision. I will no longer debate the issue of homosexuality in the church with anyone. I will no longer engage the biblical ignorance that emanates from so many right-wing Christians about how the Bible condemns homosexuality, as if that point of view still has any credibility. I will no longer discuss with them or listen to them tell me how homosexuality is "an abomination to God," about how homosexuality is a "chosen lifestyle," or about how through prayer and "spiritual counseling" homosexual persons can be "cured." Those arguments are no longer worthy of my time or energy.
