Leaning on the side of faith

Fomenting the sense of security and stability while we live in a world that does not feel or seem safe may be a challenge. That is why it is important for the adults to heighten the sense of assurance in children in truthful and loving ways.

The divinity in children is radiant—vibrant with deep colors of grace and innocence! If you have children, preteens, or teenagers under your care, how are you supposed to help them trust their inner guidance, to exert their trust and faith amid turmoil?

Jesus insisted on love, on peace, on faith, even though the world during his time was also in turmoil. He insisted on healing and transforming, from the inside out, from the I of our identity.

I have faith that multiplies. My words have the power to set things right, and my emotions tell me where I can shine my light.

“In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 ESV).

We recognize the challenges in our human experience while acknowledging there is something in us, something of the Divine, that comforts us. Even when we don’t understand what is going on in the world, we can trust divine guidance and rely on our faith.

As a prayer, let’s use a statement of faith by Unity cofounder Charles Fillmore: “We believe that divine intelligence is present in every atom, in beings and matter, and that the more abundant life, which Jesus promised, is flooding the world and quickening the minds and the bodies of people everywhere.” And so it is!

A Prayer for Children’s Guidance and Faith

As sources of love and comfort for our children, we take a moment to reestablish our trust in the one presence and one power that created the world and call it good. We let our hearts lead the way to peace, to the sacred place in us that knows the truth, the truth that is the foundation of our faith and that rises above any fact or tribulation.

A Shared Family Prayer for Guidance and Faith

United in prayer, we take heart for we know we can overcome the world. There is no night too dark, no trouble too big, no fear too strong for the presence of God—in me and around me. I believe in the beauty of a flower and in the power of the rain, in the joy that heals any sadness and the faith that leads the way. I allow my emotions to run their course. I bless them and trust them to God, to my Spirit divine, to that in me that is forever kind. And so it is!
