A Prayer for Children: Divine Order
You Might Be Surprised How Things Work Out
Divine order is a big idea and a key part of our Unity teaching. As our first principle states, God is everywhere and always present in every circumstance. How is this possible when it feels like there are things in our own lives and in the world that seem out of harmony?
We may feel upset, sad, or disappointed for many different reasons. We might have to move or perhaps a good friend moves away, we change schools, receive a poor grade, lose a game or competition, have a loved one or pet die from their earthly form.
Experiences like these are all a part of the game we call “life.” When we learn to embrace that “life happens” and that we have all we need to grow through whatever we are presented with, then we begin to experience divine order. These same events shift from being hurdles and struggles to being unexpected gifts. Who knows, a BFF might show up at a new school, a teacher or coach might encourage you to follow an undiscovered passion, the loss of a loved one often leads to experiencing their energy in new ways.
You can think of life as a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle. When you take it out of the box and empty it onto a table, even though it’s a mess, you trust that once all the pieces are connected, the picture from the front of the box will appear. So you get to work, turning the pieces over, finding the ends and corners, gathering similar images, connecting sections, working hours, days, or weeks until it’s complete.
We can look at life like this. Taking the time and having the patience to see how the puzzle pieces of life all fit together calls forth the awareness of divine order. It is reassuring to know we aren’t responsible for all the pieces; God is. As our second Unity principle states, I am naturally good because God’s divinity is in me and in everyone. We can believe that in time, we will see the whole picture and understand that everything in our lives and in the world around us exists in divine order. That means everything is working out for our highest good, even when we can’t see it yet.
A Prayer for Divine Order for All Children
Focusing on our breath, we quiet our minds and tune in to the wisdom of our hearts. We know that children are made in the image and likeness of God and God is active in everything, everywhere. We surrender to our belief in divine order. We ask that all children stay tuned in to the awareness of how infinitely loved they are as they grow through their human experiences. We ask that they be guided by the light, love, and wisdom of knowing that they are beloved children of God through it all, no matter what, now and always.
A Shared Family Prayer for Divine Order
Breathing in the awareness that God is, I go through my days believing I am well cared for. God takes good care of the flowers, plants, animals, trees, birds, bees, my family, and me. The same God that shines the stars, spins the planets, and blooms the flowers guides my life through all its ups and downs and twists and turns.
In stillness, I tune in to my heart, knowing and feeling how infinitely and immeasurably loved by God I am, as is everyone, always, and all ways.
