"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want" (Psalm 23:1).

Question:

In my first language—German—I learnt: mir wird nichts mangeln (“I will lack nothing”). Now in English, I learn: I shall not want. What does this "want" mean?

Comment:

The meaning is exactly the same. It perhaps involves an English idiom with which you are unfamiliar. "I shall not want" means that I will not be denied anything. The infinite blessings of the Lord will not be withheld from me, so long as I make the choice to allow his love and energy to guide me.

Blessings!
