Ephesians 2:8-9
"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God—not because of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Comment:
I think this passage sets out clearly Paul's understanding of the difference between traditional Judaism and the message of Jesus Christ. Obedience to the law as communicated through Moses will take you far on your path to spiritual enlightenment. Jesus takes us beyond the limitations of the law and opens a new dimension based simply on faith—a belief in our innate divinity that cannot be earned. If it were, we would boast of our own ability to achieve it. It is rather a "gift of God," which we embrace in grace.
Blessings!
