Leviticus 26:9-12 "And I will have regard for you and make you fruitful..."

Dear Friend, You have requested an interpretation of Leviticus 26: 9-12:  "And I will have regard for you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and will confirm my covenant with you.  And you shall eat old store long kept, and you shall clear out the old to make way for the new.  And I will make my abode among you, and my soul shall not abhor you.  And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and you shall be my people."   This beautiful promise is from the section of Leviticus known as the Holiness Code, which is essentially a divine covenant in which God promises to be present and active in every life so long as the choices we make in this human experience are consistent with that divine presence and activity. The metaphysical theme is one of Unity—God is not a distant force but an immediate, infinitely loving Presence—and of personal responsibility. Our lives will work richly, joyfully and abundantly so long as the choices we make are harmonious with the indwelling Lord of our Being. The rest of chapter 26 makes clear that if our choices are not harmonious with the creative energies of God, the results will be catastrophic.     At early levels of spiritual awareness, we may understand this as evidence of a demanding and judgmental God evaluating our every move. But Jesus helps us to see that there is no judgment involved—and no lack of love from a Source that is infinite Love. It's simply that choices made from love, and from an awareness of God's Presence within us, will have positive and loving results. Choices made from fear, or from ignorance of that Presence, will have negative and fearful results.  Even then, though, God's Love and Presence are not lacking; they will express eagerly in our lives when we 'know the Truth' and make new choices—when we "clear out the old to make way for the new."
