Mark 14:22-25
While they were eating, he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to them, and said, "Take; this is my body." Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it. He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly I tell you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."
Comment:
As with so much else, there is no single, definitive Unity interpretation of this passage. In general I would say that we understand Jesus to be suggesting a new understanding of the Passover meal, but not creating a sacrament to be solemnly observed. Many Unity centers do not offer communion; others do, usually once a year. We do not understand the elements of the ritual to be literally the body and blood of Jesus. He is speaking here as the Christ in full expression. He calls us to recognize ourselves as the Christ, suggesting a remembrance of his teaching that may help. Certainly the body and blood of the human Jesus was neither his concern nor focus.
Blessings!
