Matthew 17:19-20 "Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said 'Why could we not cast it...'"
"Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said ’Why could we not cast it out?’ He said to them, ’Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain ’Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you’" (Matthew 17:19-20).
Comment:
The disciples have just tried unsuccessfully to heal an epileptic; Jesus steps in and heals him instantly. In response to their question, he tells them that they lack the necessary faith. But faith in what? In God? They all have faith in God. But, as Unity minister Eric Butterworth wrote, "God cannot do for you what God cannot do through you." We must have faith in ourselves, as channels for the healing power of God, in order for healings to happen through us. It sounds like a tall order, but Jesus assures his disciples—and us—that even faith the size of an infinitesimal mustard seed is sufficient for the Power of God to work through us, and "nothing will be impossible." Blessings!
