“Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:26)

Comment:

It’s important to realize that Jesus is not speaking in hyperbole. He means us to seriously consider what he’s saying. Birds do not spend their lives worrying about how they will be fed. They do not feel that they are alone in a remorseless world, forced to fend for themselves. When they are hungry, they seek food, and they find it. It never occurs to them that they won’t.

It only stands to reason, therefore, that the Power of God at work in all creation will enfold us and sustain us. We still have our work to do, just as the birds of the air have to seek out their nourishment. They don’t sit around waiting for it to be delivered! But neither do they stress about the possibility of lack. We, too, are part of the infinite energy of the Divine. We are always within God’s loving care. And so long as we know that and act from that belief, there is nothing to fear.

Blessings!
