Psalm 46:10-11 "'Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations..."
"'Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.' The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge" (Psalm 46:10-11 NRSV).
Question:
It brings me peace sometimes. I want to call on it several times a day, and if I knew it more it would be easier.
Comment:
Psalm 46 is a hymn of praise and affirmation. It begins "God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear" (Psalm 46:1). And it concludes with the familiar lines quoted above. Linking the Lord—the Presence of God within each of us—with "I am" takes us back to Moses before the burning bush, and forward to Jesus' great "I am" statements in the Gospel of John. When Moses asks the voice in the bush for a name, the reply is "I am that I am!" In other words, God is the very essence of life within us. 'I am' is the most powerful creative statement we can possibly make, because whatever intention we add to the end of those two words becomes our intention. And because “I am” is the creative power of God expressing through us, that intention becomes our life experience. Knowing this intimate, creative Oneness with all that God is provides us with infinite support, love and reassurance. So "Be still, and know that I am God" really suggests that we calm our busy minds and fully embrace the Presence of God that is our true identity. Blessings!
