"You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was destined before the foundation of the world but was made manifest at the end of the times for your sake" (1 Peter 1:18-20 RSV).

Question:

I am trying to understand how it is that Unity interprets the "blood of Christ" if Christ is divine consciousness and not a physical person. How is the blood in this passage understood?

Comment:

Our physical blood is in regular, constant, measurable flow, carrying Life to every cell in our physical form. Metaphysically, "the precious blood of Christ" represents divine energy similarly available to bring spiritual Life to every aspect of consciousness. The Christ is the Presence of God that is our true identity. Becoming aware of our Christ Identity, and allowing its energy to fill our consciousness as the Source for every thought and choice, does indeed "ransom" us from the beliefs in lack, limitation, and separation we inherited from the collective consciousness of preceding generations.

Blessings!
