Question:

Who is the "Comforter" mentioned by Jesus in the New Testament? I believe that everything already is; by that I mean that when we were created, God declared his creation "Good." So I would think that rather than something or someone new, it might be a greater awareness of the indwelling Christ.

Comment:

"The Comforter" is generally considered to be the "Holy Spirit"—a term Jesus also uses to describe the divine energy that his disciples can expect to receive when he has left and they have begun their spiritual work. He has been teaching and demonstrating for three years the truth of the indwelling Christ—the Presence of God that is the true identity of each of us. And he has called his disciples to claim their Christ identity and, through it, to create the new dimension of consciousness he calls "the kingdom of heaven." "The Comforter" or Holy Spirit represents his assurance that they will not be alone. Beyond the dimension of God that is the Christ, there is infinite Power and Love available to us when we are engaged in our spiritual purpose.

Since the Comforter is an aspect of the Divine, just as the Christ is, it must be as eternal as all of God is—as eternal as we are. So I agree that Jesus is not inventing or introducing something new; he is describing the spiritual truth that we are always more loved and supported than we can even imagine.

Blessings!
