Genesis 1:28
"God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth" (Genesis 1:28).
Comment:
In this first of two creation stories included in the Book of Genesis, humankind is created on the sixth day, after the earth has been created and populated. We are the 'image and likeness' of our Creator, and it is that innate divinity that is given 'dominion' over all expressions of life on the planet. 'Dominion' is not just about power and control. It suggests that humankind is charged with the well-being of this mortal realm and all the expressions of life with which we share it.
Blessings!
