Genesis 20:13
"And when God caused me to wander from my father's house, I said to her 'This is the kindness you must do me: at every place to which we come, say of me, He is my brother'" (Genesis 20:13 RSV).
Question:
What type of house is Abraham referring to? Is it a spiritual house? Or is it a physical house?
Comment:
Well, both! Abraham was indeed guided to leave his father, his family, the comfort and security of his physical home, and to place his faith solely in the Lord of his being. And at a deeper, metaphysical level, it is true for us as well that our spiritual guidance may lead us to leave the 'comfort zone' of whatever we are calling home, and to step out into the unknown, trusting completely in that guidance. I think it's true that, physically and spiritually, comfort zones are fine for a while. But we must always avoid making that comfort a 'false god' that distracts us from our wholehearted commitment to placing our belief totally in the Lord of our own being.
Blessings!
