Isaiah 40:3-5 "A voice cries: 'In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord...'"
A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all the people shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”—Isaiah 40:3-5
Question:
I attend Unity and I sing occasionally at the Christian Science Church. Today the song I am singing is the text from Isaiah 40: 4-5. “Every Valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; and the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. Then the glory of the lord shall be revealed ... for the mouth of the lord has spoken it.”
Comment:
This is a beautiful and powerful passage just in reading it aloud; I’m sure it is even more powerful in a musical setting. It is a ringing call from the prophet to the people of Israel, assuring them that their time of exile is at an end, and new possibilities lie ahead. It is the energy of God, the energy of the divine that will create a straight highway in the desert, lift the valleys and lower the mountains so that the return journey from Babylon to Jerusalem will be easy and joyful for the people who are called to resume their spiritual journey. And metaphysically, it’s a great promise for us all as we “awaken” to remember our true spiritual identity—that we are the Christ, the fullness of God, present in human form to make the choices that will create a new dimension of consciousness—the kingdom of heaven. The challenges may seem overwhelming, but the Presence of the Lord is with us, smoothing the path before us so that our way will be easier than we ever imagined. It is through us that “the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,” as we move forward on our spiritual purpose with joy and gratitude.
Blessings!
