Luke 11:34
“Your eye is the lamp of your body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light; but if it is not healthy, your body is full of darkness” (Luke 11:34).
Question:
Is that referring to how your eye processes what it sees or perception, i.e. looking for the good in all situations? I know it’s not the physical manifestation.
Comment:
I don’t think Jesus is talking here about what our physical eyes (plural) may discern in the world around us. He is describing the inner light of spiritual truth—the singular spiritual eye that is our inner lamp. When we are centered and clear about spiritual truth, then that truth shines from us into the world around us; we become the lamp placed on a stand that Jesus describes in verse 33. Centered in that inner light, we not only see but understand everything in the tangible world from that spiritual perspective. That will, indeed, allow us to see the good in all situations, as you suggest.
Blessings!
