Matthew 10:41-42
"'Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward'" (Matthew 10:41-42).
Comment:
Jesus is speaking to his closest friends and followers—the 12 disciples he is sending out to carry his message and ministry further than he could accomplish on his own. Chapter 10 is, in a way, the first ministerial school; Jesus is both loving and practical in his instructions on how they should conduct themselves as they journey out as the first Christian missionaries. This particular passage, which concludes his teachings, makes the important point that consciousness is everything. It's not fear-based obedience that will communicate his message. It requires a deeper, love-centered awareness. In other words, it's not just what a person does that matters, but their consciousness in the process that will ensure that "he shall not lose his reward."
Blessings!
