Matthew 13:44-46

"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

 ‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it'" (Matthew 13:44-46).

Comment:

Chapter 13 in the Gospel of Matthew gathers together seven distinct parables Jesus used to describe "the kingdom of heaven"—the state of elevated spiritual consciousness within each of us that he urges us to strive for. The parables all make the same point, but each is designed for a specific group within the crowds he addressed: farmers, fishermen, housewives, merchants.

The metaphysical message beneath each of these parables is that achieving kingdom-of-heaven consciousness is more important, more valuable, than anything else. It is a treasure hidden within us; it is a "pearl of great value" worth more than all we have gained or gathered in our human experience.
