"Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a sabbath. For at that time there will be great suffering, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be" (Matthew 24:20-21).

Comment:

This passage reflects Jesus, approaching the end of his ministry, trying to prepare his disciples for the spiritual process to come—the process of creating the new consciousness he describes as “the kingdom of heaven.” It will not always be an easy or comfortable process. The essence of creating the kingdom is letting go of old beliefs, fears, and limitations. That seems like a good idea—and it is. But “the brighter the light, the darker the shadows.” There will be resistance—both within us and in the world around us—from those thoughts and energies that want to fearfully cling to the old.

Blessings!
