Matthew 7:24-27
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!"
Question:
We discussed this scripture last Sunday. We are part of Unity movement in South Africa. I'm also a participant in the UUMS program to become a licensed Unity minister soon. Our minister dealt with the metaphysical interpretation of the wind and rain beating against these two different houses as all the different kinds of problems which we experience in our daily lives and our need to deal with them from the foundation of Truth. Rev. Ed, please explain how we can use forgiveness as a spiritual principle to completely eradicate and dissolve the pain and hurt which was caused by these worldly afflictions and emotional toxins.
Comment:
I think your minister's interpretation of this passage is correct. What's important, I think, is that being "founded on rock" does not mean that there will be no storms and floods. As long as we are in these human forms, such challenges will be a part of our life experience. We exercise our foundation in Truth when we accept the challenges without blaming others, or blaming ourselves. We experience the storms without judgment, doing what is ours to do to dissolve the neqative in the faith-filled certainty that our anchor in Truth will hold us safe.
Blessings!
Rev. Ed
