About Our Magazine
Spirituality & Health®: A Unity Publication draws from the wisdom of many traditions and cultures with an emphasis on spiritual beliefs and practices that can be applied to our everyday lives. We look to science to help provide a context for the spiritual quest, and we explore healing modalities that enhance the health of our bodies, minds, communities, and the earth that supports us. In our language the words whole, health, and holy share a common root.
Topics included under the umbrella of health and spirituality can include:
- Faith, interfaith philosophy, meditation, prayer, and spiritual principles
- Nutrition, wellness, yoga, and holistic medicine
- Creativity, the inner life, social justice, and issues of conscience
- Public health, the human body, and the environment

How Two Magazines Became One
The Unity spiritual movement began in 1889 with the publication of a magazine named Modern Thought. The title changed a few times before founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore decided on Unity magazine in 1891. The format and style of the publication have changed many times over the years, but what remains constant is the focus on helping readers deepen their spiritual journey and live joyfully.
Spirituality & Health was launched as a national magazine in 1998 by Trinity Church Wall Street in New York City to meet the desire by millions in America for spiritual development. The project was headed by T George Harris, who also created Psychology Today and American Health. The S&H definition of spirituality became “Total Aliveness!”
The two award-winning magazines came together in 2024 when Unity World Headquarters purchased Spirituality & Health. Unity revised the name of its 135-year-old magazine to Spirituality & Health: A Unity Publication. Editors from both magazines now work together to create the lively, unpredictable, and never-boring publication that blends the best of both magazine traditions.
