A Prayer for Children: Faith Overcomes Worry
Trust the Seeds We Plant Will Grow
One of the best ways to help children understand the difference between faith and worry is through the simple act of planting seeds. The Easter season is a perfect time for this lesson, as Jesus’ resurrection reminds us that even in the darkest times, trusting God leads us back to life, love, and peace. Just as a seed holds the promise of new growth, faith allows us to trust in the unseen, knowing that something beautiful is unfolding.
Ask your children what they think a seed needs to grow. Does it need good soil, water, sunlight, and patience? What happens if we overwater it, dig it up to check too soon, or worry about whether it will sprout? In life, we all have our own gardens—big tests, games, recitals, friendships—and sometimes, we feel anxious or afraid. But just as a seed grows best when we trust the process, we, too, can choose faith over worry, remembering that we don’t have to believe every fearful thought that arises.
Faith invites us to flip the script, to release worry and tune into the truth of who we are. A simple way to practice this is by taking deep breaths, getting quiet, praying, or shifting our thoughts to trust in God’s guidance. When we let go of fear and allow faith to lead, life blossoms in miraculous ways.
A Prayer for Faith in All Children
I bring myself fully into the present moment, knowing that my energy, thoughts, and beliefs impact the experience of my children. I commit to being in the world but not of it, remembering that love, peace, and wisdom are ultimately what’s real. I ask God to lift our worries and those of our children so that together, in faith, we may cocreate a harmonious world that works for all.
A Shared Family Prayer for Faith
Let’s take three deep breaths together—inhale faith, exhale worry. Inhale trust, exhale upset. Inhale love, exhale fear. We affirm that with God, all things are possible. No matter what is happening in our lives, in our minds, or in the world around us, we rest in the truth that we are infinitely, limitlessly, and always loved.
Together we affirm:
