God Is Equally Present, Always

What if we thought of our prayers like the sun or the rain? On sunny days, light touches everything. On rainy days, water falls upon everything. There are no exceptions. When I pray for others, I like to think of it in this way.

As I begin my prayer time by taking a few moments in stillness and silence, I always find myself looking out the window to gaze at the trees and sky. When I do, I know this same sky can be seen by others. They can see and even feel what I see and feel about the sky. We share the same connection to it. The same can be said of our prayers.

When we pray, we become still and turn our attention fully to God. We know and affirm that God is within and all around us and is also within and all around everyone else in our lives. God is in our family, our friends, our neighbors, our teachers and ministers. That means we are all part of the same Spirit. We are all one. This is why our community is called Unity.

So God is like the sun. God is like the rain. God touches everyone. Everyone is a part of God. And the sun and the rain give equally to everyone. No one feels the sun less than anyone else. No one feels the rainfall less than anyone else. That is the loving truth of each one of us. We are all as much a part of God as everyone else. All equal in Spirit.

When you pray for others, no matter who they may be, think of your prayers in this way. Feel how nourishing and joyful the sunlight is and also how refreshing the rainfall is. Your prayers are just like that. They nourish and refresh the ones we hold in prayer. And they nourish and refresh each of us as we pray.

God is our sunshine and our rainfall, loving, guiding, and sustaining every one of us.

Children’s Prayer for Others

Dear God, we become still in this moment and turn our attention fully to the Presence within us. We know and affirm Spirit in our lives and the lives of all others. As we become still and centered in divine love, we bring to mind all the people in our lives and our community. We know the Divine is in and all around each of them. We affirm their spiritual connection and see each of them peacefully guided and nurtured.

A Shared Family Prayer for Others

God is within us as we join together to pray. We are one as each of us focuses our attention fully on God, and we become still. Taking a deep, sustaining breath, we affirm: Divine love and guidance are always present in each of us. We feel calm and renewed together in this moment. We feel the love of the Divine. We bring to mind all other people in our lives and think of them as we affirm: Divine love and guidance are always present in each of them. As we feel God’s peace and presence, we know that they do too.

Together we affirm:
