"All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer, together with certain women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, as well as his brothers" (Acts 1:14).

Comment:

I must admit I find it difficult to see just what it is about this one particular sentence that speaks to you. It tells us that women were a part of the core group of believers who gathered together for prayer and support in the immediate aftermath of Jesus' human ministry. And it tells us that he wasn't an only child—although the Catholic Church still disputes that, arguing that “brothers” might mean “cousins.” So we see that a strong feminine energy was a part of the early Christian movement, and that Jesus' earthly family was to be more involved in the movement than they seem to have been during his lifetime. They are gathered in Jerusalem, hiding in 'an upper room,' still not sure what to do next, or even what to believe about recent events. Metaphysically, it is often when we have gathered and quieted our mortal energies that we can most clearly hear and receive the guidance of God—which these followers are about to experience through the events of Pentecost.   Blessings!
