Comment:

There are many divine promises in Hebrew scripture (what we call the Old Testament)—promises to Noah, to Abraham, to Moses, to David. The details differ, but it's basically one promise: Trust in the Lord and your life will prosper in every way; trust instead in false gods of power, status, greed, and judgment, and the result of that choice will be a life of suffering, lack, and fear. All choices have consequences, so the life we experience is totally up to us. Divine promises really reassure us that spiritual principles are constant and eternal. They will not change arbitrarily if we trust the guidance of the Lord—the divine Presence within us.

Blessings!
