Luke 12:51 "Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth?"

“Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division!" (Luke 12:51).

Question:

Just that I don't understand what it means. I thought peace was Jesus' message.

Comment:

I would say rather that “love” is Jesus' message, and peace is experienced in a world that has surrendered to the Power of love. Getting to that state of consciousness is a process—and it can be a challenging one. Jesus doesn't want us harboring the illusion that his is an easy, gentle path. A commitment to love is very threatening to those who are committed to conflict, to creating a duality and doing battle against a perceived enemy. By removing ourselves from that collective consciousness, we may indeed seem to create division. The answer is simply to keep on keepin' on—to hold to the Power of Love and Light through any shadows or challenges. At the same time, we must be aware that it won't always be easy.
