This Too Shall Pass
Question:
I want to know if these words are from the Bible. For years my mother used to say, “This too shall pass.”
Comment:
“This, too, shall pass” is not from the Bible, although many people think it is. Apparently it began as a Sufi saying. It’s usually the culmination of a folk story in which a king who has trouble conversing with people asks the wisest men in his kingdom to come up with an observation that will be appropriate in every circumstance, and that is short enough to be engraved on a ring. After much debate, they return and present the king with a ring on which is inscribed “This, too, shall pass.”
Blessings!
