"I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you" (John 16:12-15).

Comment:

I'm happy to address this powerful passage. Jesus is in the final days of his ministry, fully aware of what lies ahead and anxious to leave his disciples with all the strength and understanding he can communicate. Here he is saying that while they will not understand immediately the drama that is about to unfold, the 'Spirit of truth' will eventually allow them to see from a proper spiritual perspective. That Spirit will "take what is mine and declare it to you." In other words, he will empower them to realize in themselves the same Christ identity that Jesus realized, taught, and demonstrated throughout his ministry. Throughout the final discourse of Chapters 14 through 17 in the Gospel of John, the emphasis is consistently on Jesus empowering those disciples he is leaving behind to claim their own Christ power and carry forward his work of awakening all people to their Christ potential.

Blessings!
