Matthew 17:20
"Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, 'Why could we not cast it out?' He said to them, 'Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you'" (Matthew 17:19-20).
Comment:
The disciples have just tried unsuccessfully to heal an epileptic; Jesus steps in and heals him instantly. In response to their question, he tells them they lack the necessary faith. But faith in what? In God? They all already have faith in God. But, as Unity minister Eric Butterworth wrote, "God cannot do for you what God cannot do through you." The disciples cannot heal because they do not have faith in their ability to heal.
It is so for us as well. We must have faith in ourselves, in our innate Oneness with the healing power of God, in order for healings to happen through us. It sounds like a tall order, but Jesus assures his disciples—and us—that even faith the size of an infinitesimal mustard seed is sufficient for the Power of God to work through us, and "nothing will be impossible."
In our world—this dualistic and limited human experience we are sharing—it would seem this cannot be so. But our true identity is not of this world. Our true world is the realm of spirit. It is by allowing ourselves to express the true world in the midst of this human experience that all things become possible. No one said it was easy, but truly believing—without doubting—in the possibility is the path Jesus shows us.
Blessings!
