Matthew 4:1-11

Question:

If Jesus also had an ego mind like all of humanity, how is it that he managed to "never sin" as it says in the Bible? This sort of implies that we can never be quite as good as Jesus because we have all sinned. What are your thoughts on that?

Comment:

I don't think it's accurate to say Jesus never sinned, if we understand 'sin' in its original meaning of 'missing the mark.' Before his spiritual Realization (symbolized by his baptism), he was as fully human as any of us. He undoubtedly made choices that 'missed the mark,' and learned to make better choices going forward. As we all do. Even after his awakening, he sometimes makes questionable choices. He gets angry and impatient. He curses an innocent fig tree and, in effect, kills it. Being the Christ in full expression doesn't mean the ego mind disappears. As long as we're in human form, the ego mind is a necessity—it contains important information on how to live our human experiences. So long as we allow the Christ of our being to be steadily in control, ego mind is no threat; it's a useful resource.
