"Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God" (Philippians 4:6 RSV).

Question:

"Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God" (Philippians 4:6 RSV).

Comment:

Much of Chapter 4 of the Letter to the Philippians consists of loving, personal messages and appreciations to individuals in the church. Chapter Four addresses all the brethren, urging them to put aside their conflicts, to "agree in the Lord" (4:2 RSV) and concentrate on the joyous possibilities of their newfound faith. In this passage, I think prayer and supplication do indeed mean very much the same thing. Supplication has more of a sense of physical activity, however. It suggests to me that we must not only pray by aligning our consciousness with the divine, but also express that spiritual alignment in our words and actions as well.

Blessings!
