Proverbs 19:23

"The fear of the Lord is life indeed; filled with it one rests secure and suffers no harm" (Proverbs 19:23).

Comment:

There are many references in the Bible to "fear of the Lord." The best known is "Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" from Proverbs 9:10. In both instances, the central question is what we mean by "fear." It's clear from the context of each, I think, that it is not the kind of fear one feels at a scary movie, for example. Here "fear" could be translated as "awe." The Lord is the Christ—our own divine essence. When we realize its presence within us, we are filled with safety and security. This realization allows us to begin learning how to be the Christ in expression.
