Revelation 21:4
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away" (Revelation 21:4).
Question:
I know the Bible is to be understood as metaphor. What is the nonliteral meaning of this passage?
Comment:
The overall purpose of the Revelation to John is to describe the challenges we will face in the process of expanding into the higher dimension of consciousness that Jesus calls 'the kingdom of heaven.' Chapter 21 describes what awaits us at the end of that process: "a new heaven and a new earth" (Rev. 21:1). It is an expression of the loving consciousness of Infinite Spirit. That Spirit of love will no longer be in conflict with an ego consciousness sourced in fear. Therefore, those feelings that are the product of fear—grief and pain—will no longer exist. There is no grief because we know the Truth that there is no death. There is no pain because we are free of the duality-based resistance that is the cause of pain.
John's revelation describes the transformation of our collective consciousness, and the same transformation is available in individual consciousness as we awaken to the Truth of who we are and choose to express that Truth in creative ways, choice by choice.
Blessings!
