A Prayer for Children: Faith and Trust

God’s Presence Is Dependable

There is a geyser in the state of Wyoming that shoots water high into the sky every hour and a half each day. It has been called “Old Faithful” since it was discovered more than 100 years ago because it can be counted on to erupt every day, every time, without stopping. It was spewing its super-hot water on schedule long before any people ever knew about it.

We can think of God like Old Faithful. Wherever we are and whatever we may be doing, God is with us. Since we are each a part of God, God always has been and always will be the core of who and what we are. Our spiritual nature never leaves us; it guides us in each moment. We can see God expressing all around us—in the trees and animals, in the faces of strangers and those we know and love, and in the steady flow of day and night.

What we can do is to think about God as much as we can and learn to trust the peace we feel when we do. We can pray, which means to relax and remember that God is here with us, right now. For me, I know I can trust the presence of God because I always feel it when I pray. I begin by becoming still, closing my eyes, and silently affirming: God is with me, right here, right now. God is and I am. All is well. I can also simply affirm: There is no spot where God is not! This enriches my faith and trust in God.

Unity cofounder Myrtle Fillmore took time each day to focus on God, praying in stillness, even when she was ill with what was thought to be an incurable disease. Myrtle had faith and trust in God. By taking time to sit still and pray, she eventually was able to heal from her illness. This experience was a reason she helped start the Unity spiritual movement.

God is like the sun—always there, every day of our lives, even behind the clouds of concern or uncertainty that may float through our sky. When we become still and pray, we can feel the presence of God fully and trust that God loves and guides us always.

A Prayer for Faith and Trust in All Children

I close my eyes and take a deep breath, bringing my attention to the here and now. I affirm God is with me and with all children in every moment. My breath is evidence of God within me, the life force sustaining me constantly and steadily, as dependable as Old Faithful. I trust God and live each day affirming my faith in God as my constant and steady supply of love and guidance.

A Shared Family Prayer for Faith and Trust

We take a moment in prayer together, joining our hearts as one. We can feel our connection with God and each other as we connect in sacred heart space. We are here for each other, and God is here for us, always. As we trust our family to love and support each other, we know and affirm that God loves and supports each one of us as divine creations. We faithfully affirm the love and peace of God.
