Finding Harmony with Family and Friends

Do you like music? I sure do! I have many favorite songs, and I enjoy them because I like the way the different musical notes play together and make a beautiful sound. That’s one way to describe harmony. Another way is when several pieces or parts join together to create something beautiful—like a family or group of friends.

Look anywhere and you’ll see life working together in harmony. The sunshine beams down and provides light to the world, helping plants live and grow. Those plants give us oxygen we need to breathe. When rain falls, it waters the plants, giving them what they need to help support life.

When it comes to our families, we can see harmony in action as well—whether we all live together or not. The adults in our life provide a place to live, make meals, and teach us new things as we grow. We may have grandparents who tell stories about their lives we can learn from, take us places, or watch over us. When a family is in harmony, Mom, Dad, and grandparents show us love with hugs, encouragement, and support if we feel scared or angry.

Unity is another word for harmony. Unity is about all people and things being one—together in Spirit, all a piece of God. To remind us of that unity, we can affirm: There is no spot where God is not. Or God is with me here and now and I am loved.

There are other times, though, when things may not feel in harmony. Mom or Dad may be angry. Your grades might be lower, or you might not make the team. How do you return to harmony when you feel scared or angry or sad?

Well, even during those times, you can probably count the people who love you. And you know you are one with Spirit. That divine love never goes away, ever! This is the time to take a few deep breaths and remember you are loved now and always. These times can also be some of the best to pray and use positive affirmations.

We can affirm we love each other no matter what may happen or how we may feel. We can know we are and always will be together in harmony and together in God. We are the notes of the song of our family, and we love that song!

A Prayer for Harmony in All Children

Taking this moment in prayer, I relax and feel the presence of Spirit here and now. I affirm the truth that each member of my family is loved and important. I am deeply grateful for each child in my family. I treasure the love and joy they give and that I can give to each of them. Sharing this love is the harmony that is Spirit. I affirm that each child in my family is in harmony now and always, and I am grateful.

A Shared Family Prayer for Harmony

We pause in this moment and come together in prayer. We join hands, breathe, and as we do so, we experience our connection. We are in harmony with God and each other. We think of each other as we pray, feeling through our hands and hearts our unbreakable connection. In this moment, God is and we are—loved, provided for, and in perfect harmony.

Together we affirm:

The text "With my family and friends, I express the harmony of God." over a child's drawing of apple trees
