"Now therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider how you have fared. You have sown much, and harvested little; you eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and you that earn wages earn wages to put them into a bag with holes. Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider how you have fared" (Haggai 1:5-7).

Comment:

I think this advice from the prophet is calling his people to realize the consequences of their choices. They have—in the prophet's eyes, at least—chosen to put their own needs and desires ahead of their commitment to the Lord. The results are not happy; they never are. The truth for us today in this passage is that nothing in this world—food, water, clothing, money—will be sufficient on its own. Only when we replace our fear-based choices with loving choices, expressing our Oneness with God, will our lives express this love for us as well.

Blessings on your children and your work!
