John 14:2
"In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?" (John 14:2)
Comment:
Jesus was very practical, I think, with his imagery. He had to be, given the rather dense level of consciousness he was addressing. The image of a house with many mansions inside it is a bit strange. I'm more comfortable with the imagery of a house (which is perhaps a mansion) containing many rooms, of which this earthly experience is merely one. What's in the other rooms? Ah, that's the mystery.
At any rate, Jesus was clearly not describing a physical location of any sort. He was trying to use the limitations of language to describe the indescribable—the infinite size and diversity of spiritual Truth. Mansion—room. Potato—Potahto. I think we can cut him some slack.
Blessings!
