Psalm 87:1-3
“On the holy mount stands the city he founded; the Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwelling places of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God” (RSV).
Comment:
Psalm 87 in its entirety is a song praising the city of Jerusalem, under its poetic name of Zion. Metaphysically, we understand Zion to represent the “city of God” within us—the Christ Presence of the divine that is our true identity. Knowing our oneness with God allows us to accomplish and express “glorious things” in our own lives and our creative contribution to the world.
