Matthew 17:20-21 "For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed..."

"For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." (Matthew 17:20-21).

Question:

I am going through a serious financial problem right now. My faith is being tested like never before. I am trying to be strong, while bad news after bad news comes.

Comment:

We know this must have been an important teaching for Jesus and his first followers, because it is included in all three synoptic Gospels (Mark, Matthew, Luke), in wording that is almost identical.   I think the key question is: Faith in what? Jesus would scarcely be telling his followers to believe in the distant God they had learned about through their Jewish religion. They already believed in that God—punishing, judgmental, demanding. Telling them to have faith in God would be like telling us to have faith in air! We already believe in air, though we can't see it. It's not a matter of doubt or debate.   No, Jesus urges them—and us—to have faith in ourselves—in our own innate, intimate relationship with the Power of the divine. It is when we truly believe in ourselves as the Christ of God—fully empowered creations of an infinite Creator—that we can master the challenges of this dualistic life experience of limitation and separation. We must be able to say, and truly mean, “Money is not my source of abundance; a job or a paycheck is not my source of abundance. My Oneness with God is my Source of abundance, and that infinite Source is within me now and always. I call it forth into expression now!”   Blessings!
